CTE Pathways: Connecting High School to College and Career

A CTE (Career and Technical Education) Pathway is a method of searching for a career that fits a student’s interests and lifestyle, and allows him or her to build academic courses around it. Pathways ensure that students will be prepared to take advantage of the full range of postsecondary options, including on-the-job training, certification programs, and two- and four-year college degrees. Many Pathways offer concurrent enrollment credit. A Pathway will save students time and money toward training and/or a college degree. CTE Career Pathways can help guide students to the correct high school courses to enroll in. The CTE areas of study are:

  • Agricultural, Food & Natural Resources
  • Architecture & Construction
  • Arts, Audio/Visual Technology & Communications
  • Business Management/Finance/Marketing
  • Education & Training
  • Engineering & Technology
  • Health Science
  • Hospitality & Tourism
  • Human Services
  • Information Technology
  • Law, Public Safety, Corrections & Security
  • Manufacturing
  • Transportation, Distribution & Logistics
American Leadership Academy has developed over 80 general informational sheets of careers and college majors that fall under these areas of study. A sampling of some can be seen here:

ALA is also in the process of developing informational sheets with career and college major information for Fine Arts, English, Language Studies, Mathematics, Science, and Social Science areas of interest. Your ALA high school counselors along with myself can help recommend the best way for students to create a class schedule that incorporates their interests and that will help them achieve their goals utilizing ALA's partnership with Utah Valley University and Mountainland Technical College.
