Even if your college plan does not include Salt Lake Community College, these presentation sessions will help ALA students to gain a basic knowledge of these Health Science careers. Considering Pre-Med?
Many 2017 graduates of ALA were considering a major in Pre-Med. But, what is required for a Pre-Med major? According to the University of Utah MD Program Admissions page, the following is recommended and/or required:
- A bachelor's degree
- A specific undergraduate academic major is not recommended or required. Students should choose a major field for which they have enthusiasm and interest.
- Grade Point Average (GPA) and the Medical College Admission Test (MCAT) are important factors in determining academic readiness for medical school.
- Courses in mathematics, statistics, physiology, anatomy, biochemistry, human behavior, research methods and computer literacy are recommended, but are not required.
- Applicants should seek out courses that will help develop skills in independent thinking, decision-making and research. They must also communicate effectively and posses skills to express their thoughts and ideas.
- Two years of Chemistry that includes both a general chemistry and an organic chemistry series with all applicable labs.
- One year of Physics with all applicable labs.
- One year of courses that emphasize written and/or verbal communication.
- Two courses in Biology--one course must be in cellular biology or biochemistry.
- One course in the Social Sciences (history, economics, anthropology, psychology, etc.)
- One course in the Humanities (art, music, drama, literature, etc.)

A degree in Outdoor Product Design & Development
from Utah State University is the first step to a high skill, high wage, and
high demand career opportunity. This is the first-of-its-kind Bachelor of
Science degree with an integrated program that prepares students for a career
in the outdoor product industry. Students will be given the opportunity to
